This is our second time here and they treated us like VIP guests because they remembered us. Talk about great customer service.
The food is soo delicious. My husband and daughter say that the food here is better than what they have tasted at Mastros, Morton's and Flemmings.
The restaurant is not a fancy place but that is okay because you are not paying for the overhead; you just pay for the good food.
The souffle is so light and fluffy. That was a great way to end our night.

    Here is my daughter's review:
    我们很喜欢这个饭馆儿。这个饭馆有好吃的菜。很喜欢! 很高兴!

If there ever was a hidden gem, La Vie is it. The atmosphere is so familiar with an Asian splash on a French format. From the pink table cloths and napkins to the certain style of the art in the walls to that flexible leathered paper material that the menu covers are made of, it's all lovely at La Vie.

The starter soup was of the mushroom cream variety. It was above average, light and pretty tasty. The salad was surprisingly refreshing. As a fellow diner pointed out, the dressing had a hint of dill. Yum. The bread was served piping hot - the way that God intended. Absolutely terrific. The crust was super flakey like a cracker. Inside was soft and so fresh. The Escargot was the showpiece of the meal. The garlic, the herbs, the butter. All day every day now has new meaning. Our party of 4 thought a couple of orders of the escargot would suffice. But it was so good that we had to order a third. The bread is even more amazinger when dipped in the escargot's butter/garlic/herbs. Escargot is tough to find in the area, so this makes La Vie a must visit.

The Sea Bass was cooked very nicely - tender and succulent. The dinner meals came with a tasty side of potato slices (tastes much better than it sounds) and some string beans. There was also this side of carrot puree which had an overly-smooth consistency. A little too smooth. The rice was rice. The Lamb Chops were super. The quality of the meat was tender and juicy and the sauce and seasoning were right. The skin on the Duckling was crispy but not too dried out. Great skin. The meat of the Duckling was sort of tough, but upon further reflection, the consistency was just how duck usually is.

The Souffle was pretty good. The cream poured through the top was what it needed for that extra kick of sweet flavor. The staff was thoughtful and asked us in advance if we wanted to order the Souffle because it takes 30 minutes to prepare. The service top notch. Everything, they're all that you need. Attentive, responsive, pleasant, speedy. There were ample tables at opening time, but there were several parties there ready to eat within 10 minutes after opening. There's a sizeable parking lot, and it's easy to find.

Safe to say, there is no restaurant like this in the area. Will definitely be back.

It was a nice French place run by Vietnamese chef in the middle of SGV.  First time visit and we were there super early so the waiter was super attentive since we were the first table.  He gave us extra bread (which normally costs if you asks for seconds) since we ordered escargot and wanted more bread for dipping the sauce.

The food is pretty solid.  We had the duck and fish.  portions are little on the small side but it comes with salad and they gave us some free soup since we were there so early.

I had the duck and the taste is pretty good.  Escargot is very flavorful.

So I was surprised to find a French restaurant in the SGV! But figured I had to give it a try since I live so close! It's not decorated fancy but given the price point I get it. The most expensive dishes are $26-$27 and we got them all. LOL

First off this place is affordable!! You are getting a deal for $20 ish to get an entree with soup and salad.

I think for the price and the food at this location it's just OK. The portions were a bit small and we all wanted to get a burrito afterwards! But if eat slow and eat the whole loaf of bread I think it will be enough.

Service was just mediocre...she forgot our escargot, didn't bring me a salad, but did refill our waters. We also had to ask twice for the wine menu.

    1. Pate- this is a slice from what looks like the sandwiches u get at a Banh mi places
    2. Escargot - this was made well with the butter and garlics! Came out bubbling and steaming hot. We used the sauce to dip the bread. If this came out as our appetizer and not a dessert then I think we would have felt more full?! Bc we would have been dipping our bread in that!
    3. Entrees! We came with a party of 4 so we get to try more!
    - lamb chops this tasted amazing! I would come back for that!
    - rack of lamb - flavored well but the lamb chops had a crisp to it that made it more flavorful!
    - Duck - the hubs said it was all fat but still decent flavored. Not enough meat to his liking!
    - scallops and shrimp - way too salty for my friend! She was very turned off. It probably needed some pasta to offset?

Afterwards we had the soufflé! This was a good dish! I highly recommend and you have to order it early or else it will take a while! He perfected this goodness .

Overall I prob would not come back since it's just OK but extremely affordable!

I don't think I could have ever imagined a French restaurant smack dab in the middle of the San Gabriel Valley. But after searching, turns out there is one after all! The staff are all Vietnamese, and the dishes taste like French cuisine made by a Vietnamese chef. There's definitely a strong Asian influence.

The ambience inside is romantic, if slightly packed, even if the outside isn't super fancy.

The dinner entrees come with soup, salad, bread, and either tea or coffee after dinner. It's an extremely good deal for the level of food you get.

The soup was a turnip chowder. Light and creamy without being too overpowering. The salad was just basic greens with a cherry tomato. Still good but nothing too special.

The bread was one of the highlights of the evening. Normally, dinner bread tends to have an extremely tough and chewy crust and a soft and mushy interior, even at the high end restaurants. This restaurant probably serves the best "complimentary bread" I've ever had at any restaurant. It's hot on arrival, which makes me wonder if it came fresh out of the oven. The bread crust is crispy but the inside is warm and soft. Some of the best bread I've ever had from a restaurant.

For the main entree, I got the filet mignon and my fiance got the sirloin. Most American and European restaurants like to serve steaks without any sauce, but mine came with a mushroom sauce and my fiance's came with a black peppercorn sauce. The steak also came with scalloped potatoes, peas, and a carrot puree. I have to admit the color on the carrot puree is a bit odd and contrasts against the rest of the dish, but the flavor profile is there. The scalloped potatoes were good too. The filet mignon and the sirloin were both the stars of the meal. I like that the chef is not afraid to do steaks differently and use a lot of sauce. I actually really like the addition of a mushroom sauce to filet mignon. The addition of a peppercorn sauce to the sirloin also gave the steak a lot of heat and added flavor. The colors aren't as beautiful as just serving the steak straight up, but flavor is the most important to me, and La Vie certainly delivered on the flavors.

The pricing is extremely good for the quality of food that is served. This is one of Rosemead's hidden gems, and I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try high end fancy food at a fraction of the price.
